NGQUSHWA VISITED BY THE FEDERATION OF CANADIAN MUNICIPALITIES

In November 2016, Salga and Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) entered into an agreement, where six Eastern Cape Municipalities were identified as beneficiaries in the Building Inclusive Green Municipalities (BIGM) project. This duration of this initiative is five years, that is, from November 2016 to March 2021.

BIGM will strengthen the capacity of the South African municipal sector and specific municipalities in Eastern Cape Province to contribute to South Africa’s priorities for reducing poverty, supporting economic growth, and responding to climate change by transitioning to a low carbon economy.

In a Council meeting held on the 31st May 2017, Ngqushwa Local Municipality Council resolved that the Municipality will take the Local Economic Development section from the three offered by FCM and SALGA.

Ngqushwa Local Municipality is partnering with Innisfil Town in Ontario, Canada.
